About One Street Over Travel

Our Story

The name One Street Over Travel came from a family conversation about our longstanding rule of never choosing a restaurant or hotel within sight of a major tourist attraction (think: the Eiffel Tower or the Colosseum). Instead, we always go โ€œone street overโ€ in search of places where the locals hang out and the vibe is authentic.

Our mission is to provide one-of-a-kind travel experiences for our clients and guests and we’re always ready to go the extra mile to do that.  Whether we’re planning a custom vacation for you, your family, or a group of friends, or leading a small group tour, we are deeply invested in your good time. We want your trip to be amazingโ€“one youโ€™ll be talking about for the rest of your life.

Why choose One Street Over? Find out.

Hi, I’m Janet.

Iโ€™m the owner of One Street Over Travel and Iโ€™m thrilled to bring my years of experience in custom travel planning to you.

My business grew out of my passion for discovering new places, and the joy of sharing that passion with others. Travel, at least for me, is fueled by a sense of curiosity about the world. Yes, the Sistine Chapel is incredible (definitely see it!) but I also like to go beyond the usual tourist sites โ€“ to meet local people, learn something new, eat unfamiliar foods, and be immersed in the culture, if only for a week or two.

I believe strongly in the transformative power of travel. The simple act of seeing how people live and dress and eat and celebrate in other parts of the world is enlightening. Travel is not just a way to escape the mundane, but to connect with something greater. At its best, travel reveals how much we humans have in common, despite our cultural differences.

I got passports for my two children before they could walk, and Iโ€™ve loved introducing them to foreign countries and seeing the world through their eyes. Thinking back on the trips we’ve taken together, there so are many take-your-breath-away moments that have stayed with me โ€“ wandering through Paris just before Christmas as a rare snowstorm blanketed the city; stepping into Barcelonaโ€™s Sagrada Familia cathedral, lit up like a disco by stained glass windows; visiting Tokyo for the first time and discovering tranquil temples tucked between the skyscrapers; descending into the clear, cold water of a cenote in Mexico, after a blessing ceremony with a Mayan shaman.

So, whether youโ€™re new to traveling or have a passport full of stamps, if you enjoy beautiful landscapes, interesting people, unique cultural experiences, and venturing off the beaten path, youโ€™ve come to the right place! Let us make your next vacation your best vacation.
